Research interests

My main interest for many years has been the evolution of the flora of the European Alps. Currently, I study the biology and evolution of lowland populations of alpine species and the phylogeny and evolution of Moehringia sect. Moehringia (Caryophyllaceae), a lineage with several local and regional endemics along the southern edge of the Alps. I am also occupied with new phylogeny-based classifications of a number of large genera (Gentianaceae: Swertia/Gentianella; Rubiaceae: Asperula/Galium; Campanulaceae: Campanula).
